Community Outreach

Making A Difference

A core value at LYND is providing leadership in the community by helping those less fortunate. Over the course of thirty years, LYND has pursued charitable opportunities where its people as well as their strengths and services can positively impact our community while focusing its efforts where they are able to extend the impact of its generosity and influence real change.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. was established in 1941 as the Catholic Welfare Board, the social service agency of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. LYND has partnered with CCAOSA to provide affordable housing for UNHCR refugees coming to the U.S. to restart their lives. Application fees and deposits were waived, and rents were at times adjusted to meet the families' needs. LYND along with many of its clients have and continue to provide housing for CCAOSA.

LYND donates an average of 5 units a year to struggling families as well as office space for the program. This relationship has been ongoing for the past ten years, and the program has recognized A. David Lynd for his involvement by awarding him the “For Your Commitment to Welcoming The Stranger Among Us” accolade.

Brighton

LYND has been a sponsor and major supporter of Brighton, The Center for Inclusive Communities for over ten years. Brighton provides early childhood intervention and child development services for children with disabilities throughout the San Antonio Community. As part of their services, Brighton offers parenting classes, advocacy and housing assistance to these families to ensure that children are given every opportunity to live in a healthy and safe environment.

For over 10 years, LYND has also supported Brighton as the presenting sponsor for, “The Taste of the Northside”, Brighton’s largest annual fundraiser. This event takes place during Fiesta San Antonio and draws over 8,000 participants each year. During its years as presenting sponsor and participation on Brighton’s Board, the charity has grown this event’s contribution to the Brighton mission from $1700 in the first year to now exceeding $850,000 annually.

LYND has been a major sponsor in this effort by providing housing assistance to low-income families who cannot afford to pay basic rent. They sponsor a program called Fundamental Foundations, which provides low-income families in the Brighton program with rental assistance. The families receive discounts from 50%-90% off the normal rent for a period of 6-12 months.

Hurricane Katrina Relief

LYND felt that it was vital that they assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast on the 29th of August 2005. They have provided the evacuees of the hurricane discounts on apartments, free rent for 2 months, jobs, food and basic necessities for them to settle into a new home in the San Antonio and Houston area. LYND has also asked residents throughout its 22,000-unit portfolio in nine states to donate food, water and other basics items. In San Antonio, LYND encouraged the public to donate items such as canned goods, water, toothpaste, toothbrushes, batteries, pillows and blankets.

Cancer Therapy and Research Center

The CTRC is a not-for-profit, multidisciplinary, outpatient clinic and research center. The CTRC and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) have formed a research consortium called the San Antonio Cancer Institute (SACI). This consortium is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)- designated Clinical Cancer Center. Through this affiliation, the CTRC's Institute for Drug Development (IDD) provides Phase I clinical trials to patients throughout the world. LYND is proud to support CTRC and has underwritten numerous books and author luncheons.
